The idea behind this item is two fold. To firstly protect the cargo area of the bike with the pillion seat removed - the plastic is too easily scratched for my liking. And secondly to provide a stable wear resistant area for cargo.
The design is an evolution of an original design which has been improved by input from the lads on the www.ukgser.com forum.
This is very similar to the rack I designed for my 2006 GS as it also provides a large flat area when used in conjunction with the BMW panniers.
It`s very easy to fit with no drilling required and comes with replacement fasteners and spacers which hold the plate just about the plastic pillion plate.
You do not have to remove the BMW grab rail and rear rack as it fits around the handle location points however if you do it does result in a larger carrying area.
I`ve used laser etching to enhance the appearance of the plate and it certainly changes the look for the bike.
Two of the images show the rack fitted with the additional BMW rear rack plate which is sold separately.
