BMW R1200GS LC, R1200GSA Adventure LC, R1250GS, R1250GSA Adventure, Rallye, R series GS and Adventure liquid cooled including Rallye, pillion seat utility box, pillion seat tool box, lock box, lockable carrier box.

One of our most popular products, this lock box fits all liquid cooled R1200GS/A LC and R1250GS/A (including the Rallye) models 2014-present. It is also confirmed to fit with the GS LC Givi top case mounting plate (image).

This is something I considered designing for years (since the first R1200 LC model was launched in fact). I always considered the placement of a lock box in place of the pillion seat a very good idea as most of us simply do not carry passengers (most of the time) and the space is therefore wasted. However, a lock box that could clip on and off easily would still provide the option of putting the seat back on quickly if needed.

Getting it to interface well with the BMW pillion seat holding and locking mechanism has always been difficult, with previous attempts not being as good as I would like. Simply bolting the box in place might have sufficed but this does not allow for the easy clip on/off facility!

So, I decided to get stuck in over one Xmas (you can only eat so much turkey) and after many prototypes I finally came up with a solution that is, possibly, one of the best there is currently available on the market. What I did was take one of the existing best on the market (An American design - which btw I thought was really good!) and then get involved with the lads on the UKGSER forum - I`m also a member of this damn fine forum. What they (kindly) did was make a great deal of suggestions on how to improve the original design which allowed me to evolve the product.

In this case getting significant numbers of fellow bikers involved directly with R&D of a new product has produced positive results allowing me to produce a product as good as it could be as quickly as possible.

It has been designed to make maximum use of the space available but without being `too big`. Panniers and top box can still be fitted if need be.

The result is a lockable utility box that is very competitively priced with very high quality that offers the following features;

  • Interfaces with the BMW OEM locking mechanism for same key fitting and removal (clip on/off).
  • High quality lock for security.
  • 2mm Aluminium construction - light but very strong (most other boxes/panniers are made from thinner material).
  • High quality bespoke machined locating spigot.
  • Powder coated.
  • Tig welded corners, CNC pressbrake formed sides.
  • Made in the UK by craftsmen.

I`ve got one of the last prototypes fitted to my GSA LC and it clips on and off beautifully in seconds. Each box has two small drain holes just in case any water does get in (though there is a seal around the lid) and these holes can also be used for wires if you want to put any radio gear in the box for example. It can be utilized for many different applications.

To see how easy and quickly it clips on and off please search YouTube for `Fitting Cymarc Utility Box to R1200GSA LC Using BMW OEM lock` to watch the video.

NOTE: THIS UTILITY BOX DOES NOT FIT WITH THE STANDARD RALLYE SEAT. IT ONLY FITS WITH THE SPLIT SEAT.

Compartmentalized Variant

This variant is very handy if the box is used to hold radio or charging equipment. The hole in the bottom allows the routing of cable and the baffles allow equipment to be kept separated. The baffles are removable to allow cables to be routed through the central cut-out.

Great piece of kit

Purchased the pillion utility box for my 1250gs Rallye, went for the extra deep version(115mm) in white. Took a bit of fiddling to get it set up to clip on and off and feel solid when fitted but got it sorted. Very well made, well painted , it's not too high for use or the overall look of the bike and white fits well with the Rallye paint scheme

Great quality - only gave 4 stars because they forgot nutlock on the lock locking screw

Great quality - take your time adjusting it correctly for rear seat position. Fitted mine to rear position.

Gave 4 stars because mine had the lock fell apart after a few hundred miles.

Please make sure that lock screw has been fitted with nut-clock gel…..

Luckily I had partitions so no parts lost down middle cable hole…. But worth checking

much more useful than the pillion seat

great addition to the bike. Fits in well with the overall aesthetic and doesn't sit too high. It takes a little fiddling to get the front clip in the right place but once it's there, it feels pretty solid. I'm very happy with this and the service is of the highest order. Great company. I'll be back.

Top Quality - Best in Class

Good value for the money.

Fitted and tested - excellent fit, no issues with the BMW male "lock bolt" fitting and releasing properly - adjust as necessary. Welding is very good, makes for a solid box, especially as aluminum (light) is thicker than others. Pain is durable but likely will get scratched by tools, etc if they are allowed to move around. Interior sections (removable) allow for smaller items to be better stored.

Keeps tools closer to Center of Gravity on the bike, plus allows for lighter stuff to go into other luggage.

I am exploring adding a mount for a Rotopax gas or water storage can to the lid, making better use of pillion seat space.

Good place to store registration doc/insurance doc/any high value item like SW radio/diamonds/gold bars, etc.

I plan to tape a spare key inside my helmet along with the emergency BMW key - no helmet:no ride anyway.

The Swiss Army knife of accessories.

Another great buy from Cymarc. The pillion seat on the GS being largely vacant, rather than having to keep the panniers on in the summer (and restrict filtering opportunities), this box stores all manner of useful tat I think I need for a short ride. Charge leads, glasses, wallet, atlas, spare gloves, even waterproof trousers at a push. (Not all at the same time, obs, although the deeper one you probably could). Really well made, easy to fit. Only downside is can’t take a pillion, with the attendant auto speed control. Oh well.. 🤣 also usefully doubles as a mounting plate for soft luggage when off solo touring (I use a long Lomo bag in addition to all the panniers, when they are full of camping and cooking gear and food).
