BMW R1200GS `Extra 70mm` Extended Rear Seat Mounted Rack for models up to 2006
This rack has been made specifically for my load requirements and is 70mm longer than the Standard Extended Rack which is advertised. It is exactly the same as the standard Extended Rack apart from the extra 70mm in length which extends out over the rear light. The extra length allows me to fit my tent, bed roll and sleeping bag on all on one level.
This is another rack I have designed to fully cover the rear plate and to serve as a rear rack. It fits all R1200GS Twin-Cam models up to 2006. As usual, it has been `over-engineered` and has been made with little regard to making it as cheaply as possible.
Consequently, it is very substantial and will easily last the lifetime of the bike (and maybe beyond!). I have made it from high quality heavy duty thickness stainless steel and may well be substantial enough to even appeal to the GS Adventure riders! I do believe you could remove it and kick it around the streets for a few hours (literally) and it would still be fit for purpose - it is very strong in construction. Due to this durability it will easily withstand heavy or sharp weights being loaded onto it.
It has been designed to display the R1200GS logo on the rear form and also to look (and feel) as pleasing to the eye as possible. As well as looking very nice it is also very functional as it provides a plate to cover the pillion area as well as serving as a rack for very secure load carrying. The laser cut logo enhances the look of the rack & removes a few unnecessary grams of weight from the item.
At both ends of the plate/rack I have designed load retention points for use with bungee cords.
For fitting, it utilises the 7 existing mounting points used for the standard plastic cover so there is no drilling required.
It fastens with 5 extended M5x30 button head socket screws and 1 M6x30 button head socket screw. These are combined with tubular nylon spacers (7 x 10mm long) & 7 x washers which fit underneath the plate/rack in the original fastener recesses. All fasteners & washers are, of course, stainless steel and supplied along with fitting instructions.
This bit of kit represents a substantially durable covering plate and rack for the R1200GS and is, as always, hand finished by me to give it a very quality feel. This particular rack has even more time spent on it finishing the edges so that they do not cut into the bungee cord.
Although it is very competitively priced at about half the price of a similar product on the market I think it is very well made and offers very good value.
