This is my first part for the new 2013 F800 Adventure. What I have learnt is that this bike is a much more off road focused machine than the R1200GS. It`s a cracking bike to be fair and I`ve taken a great deal of input regarding design from other F800 riders including suggestions from the lads on the UKGSER site.
It seems that practicality and toughness is the aim here with attractiveness taking a rear seat - one goodly client suggested that I make it as ugly as possible - as long as it worked!
With all things taken into account my design will always be a compromise of good ideas but what I have tried to do is:
Its made from 2mm thick stainless and Tig welded and then hand finished. I`ve tried to make it as expensively robust as possible yet price it at a price which competes with the best mass produced gear on the market.
I purposely did not make a bracket for front edge support as if the guard takes a very hard knock from the front more damage can be caused from the engine mounting points being pushed back into the engine casing if you see what I mean? In any case the front of the guard is strong enough to take a heavy blow anyway. Therefore the guard fits onto the 4 existing rubberised mounting points on the bottom of the engine. I have however put 2 slots where a bracket could attach if anyone wants to put an extra bracket on but personally I don`t think it`s needed.
And its really easy to fit.

- Make it as strong as possible.
- Sink the fasteners into the base so that they don`t catch when going over rocks and boulders.
- Wrap the front around the sides giving protection from below to the headers.
- Protect the heat exchanger and oil filter located at the front of the engine.
